Video shows moment Phoenix light rail train and tractor trailer collide in fiery crash

A Phoenix light rail train and a semi truck collided in a fiery crash caught on video on Sunday evening.

The accident happened on September 14th at about 7:15 p.m. in Phoenix, Arizona in the area of Interstate 10 and Washington Street.

According to ABC 15, the semi truck and Phoenix light rail train collided, causing the train to push the truck along the tracks. The accident sparked a fire, which caused the train and semi truck to become engulfed in flames.

The truck driver sustained non life threatening injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital. Approximately 20 passengers were escorted off of the train. None were seriously hurt.

“As crews arrived, they did a great job evacuating that light rail, and getting that semi truck driver out of there,” Phoenix Fire Captain Todd Keller said to 12 News. “He was transported to the hospital in stable condition. Now, talking to the light rail employees, they said there was one employee on the light rail. There’s about 20 passengers.”

The crash closed westbound Washington Street between 16th and 20th Streets as crews worked to clear the wreckage.

No further information on the moments leading up to the crash has been released.
