Wyoming and Colorado joint operation results in truck driver arrests, 24 commercial vehicles out-of-service

This week, the Wyoming Highway Patrol (WHP) and the Colorado State Patrol (CSP) partnered for a commercial vehicle enforcement operation that resulted in multiple arrests and out-of-service orders.

On September 30, 2025, WHP and CSP joined forces to conduct a commercial carrier traffic operation on US 287 at the Wyoming/Colorado border south of Laramie.

Troopers conducted 82 commercial vehicle inspections as part of the operation, resulting in a total of sixteen drivers and twenty-four vehicles being ordered out-of-service.

Additionally, four people were arrested and one citation was issued for marijuana.

Of the four people who were arrested, three were commercial vehicle drivers, “all pertaining to repeat offenses.” Troopers said that two arrests were for “repeated offenses of driving without a CDL license,” and one arrest was for “repeated violations of English Language Proficiency (ELP).”

Another arrest was related to a state-wide warrant.

From WHP:

“The Wyoming Highway Patrol takes commercial vehicle safety very seriously. Various driver violations, including ELP and driving without a CDL license, and vehicle violations (brakes, overweight, etc.) can lead to a driver or a vehicle being put out-of-service – meaning the driver can no longer operate the vehicle. Being put out-of-service is done to ensure the safety of everyone using our roadways, regular and commercial drivers alike. When a driver is found to be operating while not complying with critical FMCSA regulations along with repeat violations like ELP, the driver may be arrested.

As many violations as this operation may have found, many commercial carrier drivers keep up with FMCSA regulations and go through inspections throughout Wyoming without being given violations. The WHP would like to thank these drivers for working so hard to be safe on the road and keep our state and our nation moving.”
