Dozens of Laramie County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) deputies were sworn in by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to assist the agency with enforcement of immigration laws, including removing “undocumented commercial vehicle operators” from the road.
On October 1, 2025, LCSO’s Sheriff Kozak and 25 deputies were sworn in by ICE and authorized to enforce immigration law under a provision of the Immigration and Nationality Act.
Under the new ICE endorsement, the LCSO officers will focus on human and drug trafficking on I-25 and I-80 through Laramie County, Wyoming.
Additionally, the ICE-endorsed deputies will focus on detecting and arresting unlicensed commercial vehicle operators.
From an LCSO news release:
“Sheriff Kozak also established a priority for his deputies to remove unlicensed and undocumented semi-truck drivers from our roads. Estimates show that over 130,000 truck drivers are undocumented and do not have commercial driver’s licenses. Sheriff Kozak said, “Let me be candid, unsafe, unlicensed and undocumented truckers, in this county will go to jail”.
When Sheriff Kozak states that criminal aliens will go to jail, he means his jail. The Laramie County Jail has been approved by ICE to hold immigration detainees awaiting deportation.“
“Wyoming does not want to be a sanctuary state for those who ignore our laws and threaten public safety. Our safety depends on holding accountable those who violate our laws, especially individuals who come unlawfully and commit further crimes in our state. Criminal aliens: those who have broken immigration laws and who are also arrested for other offenses pose a threat to our Laramie County citizens. Removing these individuals protects our families, neighborhoods, and businesses,” LCSO said.
