$1.3 million in goods recovered from two stolen semi trailers in Illinois truck yard

The Cook County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) in Illinois recovered more than a million dollars worth of stolen copper wire and data center equipment from a pair of stolen semi trailers recovered in Elk Grove Township.

On June 18, 2026, CCSO learned that a trailer that had been reported stolen in Pine Hill, Alabama, had been tracked to a truck yard located in the 2500 block of East Higgins Road in unincorporated Elk Grove Township.

When deputies arrived, they found the stolen trailer at the yard loaded with $300,000 in copper wire.

CCSO said that the trailer had Indiana plates that had been reported stolen out of Wisconsin.

The truck yard owner told deputies that the same person who dropped off the trailer containing copper wire had also dropped off another trailer the week before.

Police contacted the owner of the trailer, who said that it had been stolen out of Jacksonville, Florida, on June 10.

The second trailer contained $1 million worth of infrastructure equipment for data centers.

CCSO continues to investigate the cargo thefts and to learn the identify of the driver who dropped off the trailers.
