3,300 CMVs inspected, dozens of truck drivers sidelined for language and immigration violations during four-day Florida operation

Multiple agencies partnered for a major commercial vehicle enforcement operation across the state of Florida.

“Operation Highway Shield” took place as a statewide detail in Florida from March 23 through March 26.

The purpose of Operation Highway Shield was to target commercial vehicle safety violations, criminal activity, and threats to Florida’s transportation network.

FDLE

As part of the operation, more than 3,300 commercial vehicles were inspected, according to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE).

Officials said that the inspections resulted in 176 commercial vehicle drivers receiving out-of-service orders. Of these, 54 of the drivers were ordered out-of-service for language violations.

Also as part of Operation Highway Shield, 35 people were arrested on criminal charges, and 42 people were arrested for violating federal immigration laws.

Participating agencies include FDLE, the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services – Office of Agriculture Law Enforcement, the Florida Highway Patrol, the U.S. Department of Transportation – Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, the Florida Department of Transportation, the Department of Homeland Security – Enforcement and Removal Operations, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Homeland Security Investigations, the Florida Department of Children and Families, and local Sheriff’s Offices.
