42 truck drivers affected by FedEx layoffs in Palm Springs

42 truck drivers will soon lose their jobs as FedEx works to restructure their delivery network across the country. 

62 employees at the Palm Springs, California FedEx facility will be laid off as of September 29th. Workers were notified of the layoffs months ago, given written notice, and offered other roles a t the company in some cases. 

Of the 62 employees affected, the company WARN letter lists 26 ‘Courier/DOT’ positions and 16 ‘courier/swing driver/DOT’ positions as part of the layoffs. 

“For several years, we’ve been undergoing a network transformation — called Network 2.0 — to improve how we pick up, transport and deliver packages across the U.S. and Canada,” a FedEx representative told City News Service Wednesday. “This initiative aims to simplify service with a `one van, one neighborhood’ model, enhancing efficiency and customer service. We’re committed to supporting impacted employees through job placement, assistance, relocation aid, or severance.”

“These decisions are never taken lightly and reflect our commitment to supporting affected employees.”

FedEx expects the company-wide restructuring to save the business $2 billion by the end of 2027.
