An 80-year-old motorist was drunk and high when he crashed into three semi trucks and went “pinballing,”police say.
The crash happened at around 1 a.m. on February 10th along Interstate 70 in Hempfield Township, Pennsylvania. The Westmoreland County District Attorney’s Office announced the charges for the crash on Wednesday, April 1st.
According to CBS News, 80-year-old Daniel Oliver driving west in the eastbound lanes of I-70 when he crashed into a tractor trailer. Oliver’s vehicle then went “pinballing” between the first and a second semi truck before crashing into a third. The crash caused a truck fire, and two people were taken to a hospital in “stable” condition.
When troopers spoke with Oliver, they noticed that “an odor of an alcoholic beverage emanated from his breath” and that he kept repeating himself during their conversation. Oliver consented to a preliminary breath test, and a blood test showed a blood alcohol concentration of .095%, along with testing positive for THC.
Oliver has since been arraigned on charges including driving under the influence, risking catastrophe and driving under the influence of a controlled substance.
