California still hasn’t revoked 17,000 immigrant CDLs but its politicians are threatening to yank driver’s licenses of ICE agents

A California Representative says he will yank the driver’s licenses of any ICE agents wearing masks if elected, all while California continues to put off revoking 17,000 non-domiciled CDLs.

California Democratic Representative Eric Swawell is working to earn the California gubernatorial nomination. As part of his campaign, Swalwell has vowed to yank the driver’s licenses of any ICE Agent wearing a mask in the state of California.

“I will take your driver’s license away if you operate in our state with a mask and unidentified,” he said in a recent statement.

“If you harm a single Californian, hire the best lawyer you can afford, because I will bring you to justice. I will use every power in the state to bring you to justice.”

These threats come in the wake of a recent back-and-forth between the state and federal government over 17,000 nondomiciled CDLs in California that no longer meet federal requirements. The federal government instructed California to revoke these licenses by January 5th, but the state has since decided to treat those licenses as valid until March. The federal government has since withheld $158 million in funding from the state as a result of the non-domiciled CDL issue.

Rep. Eric Swalwell’s vowing to strip ICE law enforcement officers of their driver’s licenses for wearing masks is disgusting,” DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin said to the Daily Caller News Foundation. “Our officers wear masks to protect themselves from being doxxed and targeted by known and suspected terrorist sympathizers. Not only is ICE law enforcement facing a more than 1,300 percent increase in assaults against them, but we’ve also seen thugs launch websites to reveal officers’ identity.”

“The men and women at CBP, ICE, and all of our federal law enforcement agencies put their lives on the line every day to arrest violent criminal illegal aliens to protect and defend the lives of American citizens.,” McLaughlin continued. “Make no mistake, this type of demonization is contributing to the surge in assaults of law enforcement officers.”

Back in September, California passed legislation banning law enforcement from wearing masks while in operation. The Department of Homeland Security has since stated that it will not follow the state law, and argues that state and local politicians cannot dictate the actions and policies of federal law enforcement.
