Arkansas troopers to target load securement for vehicles transporting waste materials in July

The Arkansas Department of Transportation (ARDOT) announced an enforcement campaign focusing on load securement for vehicles transporting waste.

Starting in July 2026, ARDOT will partner with the Arkansas Highway Police (AHP), and the Keep Arkansas Beautiful (KAB) Office for an awareness and enforcement campaign focusing on compliance with Arkansas laws governing the secure transport of waste materials in vehicles.

“Because vehicles transporting waste are a significant source of highway litter, AHP will increase enforcement to ensure compliance with Arkansas laws governing the secure transport of waste materials,” officials said.

State law requires vehicles transporting waste, garbage, or other materials to secure their loads to prevent debris from escaping onto the roadways, ARDOT said.

Violations can result in misdemeanor charges, fines, community service, and the responsibility to remove debris or litter from the roadway.

The purpose of the enforcement is to reduce litter along Arkansas roadways, not to generate revenue, ARDOT said.

In 2025, ARDOT spent $9.7 million on cleaning up and disposing of litter from roadways.
