At least twelve trucking businesses targeted by ‘large-scale’ credit card scheme

Canadian police are warning companies in the heavy-duty trucking sector to use caution after at least a dozen Saskatchewan businesses were victimized by fraudsters.

On August 5, 2026, the Saskatchewan RCMP issued a warning to trucking businesses about a “large-scale” credit card scheme “where fraudsters purchase truck tires and other items with fraudulent credit cards over the phone.”

The warning comes after several months of investigation conducted by RCMP’s Central District General Investigation Section (GIS).

In March 2026, officials launched the investigation into fraud targeting businesses operating in the heavy-duty trucking sector, including automotive suppliers, tire shops, and fuel distributors.

Officials said that callers would order tires, engine oil, and/or trailer parts from the companies and pay over the phone with a credit card. With the transaction showing up as “pending,” the businesses would the ship the items, only to have the credit card be declined with no payment transferred.

RCMP said that the scheme targeted twelve businesses in the following locations:

• Battleford
• Weyburn
• Hudson Bay
• Kindersley
• Biggar
• Assiniboia
• White Butte
• Moosomin
• Cudworth
• Onion Lake

Police believe additional businesses have been targeted, and they asked victims to come forward. Victims are asked to call 310-RCMP. Tips can be anonymously submitted at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).

No charges have been filed at this time.

RCMP offered the following tips to help companies avoid falling victim to the scheme:

• Be cautious of orders where the first payment card is declined. Fraudsters often attempt to complete purchases using multiple cards after an initial card is rejected
• Never rely solely on caller ID and verify the callers’ identity before processing any payment information
• Be alert to rushed or unusual requests
• If a transaction appears suspicious, do not proceed until it has been verified
• Report suspected fraud to police immediately
