Baby delivered in semi truck cab during nationwide snowstorm

A baby was delivered in the cab of a semi truck during the recent snowstorm that affected millions of people across the United States.

The baby was delivered at about 10 a.m. on Sunday morning, January 25th in South Middleton Township, Pennsylvania along York Road, just as some of the heaviest snow was starting to fall in the area.

According to WGAL 8, the baby was delivered by Cumberland County EMS staff, who responded to the 911 calls for help. The baby required extra medical care from first responders shortly after it was born and before the team and family could be transported to a hospital.

“It required neonatal resuscitation, which is extra care that our paramedics provide, to help a child who’s been born. So, it just seemed over the top, but, Oh, and you also have the snowplow. That had to help us, kind of with an escort to the hospital,” said Nathan Harig, assistant chief of administration with Cumberland Goodwill EMS. Harig says that the situation couldn’t have been more dramatic if it was written for a medical drama soap opera.

“We train for it, but it’s not something people encounter a lot. But when you factor in all the other things that made this rescue a challenge, it just really goes to show the preparedness that all these first responders have,” Harig said.

The family was escorted to a hospital with the help of a fire truck and a snowplow. Since the incident, the family says they are not ready to share the story publicly. Details on the conditions of the mother and baby have not been released.
