The city of Baltimore is considering a truck parking ban across all neighborhoods in the city as part of a new ordinance.
The ordinance would prohibit commercial vehicles from parking along city streets in neighborhoods in Baltimore, Maryland for more than an hour. The issue was discussed at a meeting on Monday, April 6th.
According to Fox4Baltimore, Baltimore City Council believes this change would help to reduce noise, congestion, and safety risks in the affected neighborhoods. Vehicles related to active work at residences would be exempt from the ban, but would only be permitted within a one block radius of the work site. Trailers “for the purpose of transporting mobility devices like electric wheelchairs” would also be exempt.
The bill would also ban commercial vehicles from parking for any amount of time between the house of 1 a.m. and 7 a.m. Violators of the overnight ban would be fined $75, with heavier trucks subject to $500 fines or more.
Daytime violations may carry fines between $250 and $500.
