A truck driver faces charges after U.S. Border Patrol (USBP) found drugs and a firearm at a checkpoint in the Laredo, Texas, area.
USBP agents stopped a blue tractor-trailer at a checkpoint located on I-35 after a canine unit alerted to the vehicle, according to a July 9 release from the USBP’s Laredo Sector.
When agents searched the vehicle, they located 24 bundles of cocaine and a firearm hidden under a mattress.
The truck driver was arrested and faces charges of possession with intent to distribute and conspiracy.
“This seizure highlights the U.S. Border Patrol’s commitment to stopping criminal activity and protecting our borders,” the agency said.
USBP asked anyone who spots suspicious activity in the Laredo area to call 1-800-343-1994.
