A bucket truck driver survived a plunge off the Calcasieu River Bridge after swerving to avoid a previous crash.
The accident happened at 6:15 a.m. on Sunday, March 22nd on the Calcasieu River Bridge along Interstate 10 in Lake Charles, Louisiana.
According to KFDM6, one vehicle struck a barrier in the eastbound lanes of the Calcasieu River Bridge, causing a pile up crash involving at least four other vehicles. As police responded to the pile up crash, a bucket truck swerved to avoid debris in the roadway and crossed into westbound traffic. The bucket truck then went over the side of the bridge.
Police report that the truck did not fall the full height of the bridge, and instead went off near the foot of the bridge. The bucket truck driver was not hurt in the crash, but three people from the initial wreck were taken to a nearby hospital with minor injuries.
The right lane of I-10 westbound over the bridge is reportedly closed until further notice for inspection and repairs due to the crash.
