California highway shut down for hours by overturned semi truck

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) responded to an overturned semi truck north of Cool on Monday.

Around 2:40 p.m. on August 10, CHP’s Placerville Division reported that SR-49 was closed in both directions between Cool and Auburn, north of Teichert Quarry, for a crashed semi truck.

No injuries were reported.

A tow truck was required to help recover the topped truck.

Officials were able to fully reopen SR-49.

Trucks are not permitted on SR-49 between I-80 and US-50 unless the vehicle is under 65 feet in combination and the kingpin to rear axle length is under 40 feet, according to CHP.

“SR-49 is not made for longer truck/tractor combinations to pass through. It is a safety hazard for other motorists due to the inability of the truck to safely negotiate the roadway without crossing over the center lines,” CHP previously stated.
