The California Highway Patrol (CHP) impounded a semi truck that was caught exceeding the state’s speed limit for commercial vehicles.
According to CHP’s Modesto Division, a commercial vehicle enforcement officer spotted a semi truck “traveling in the fast lane southbound SR-99 near Hammett Road at 70 m.p.h.”
The trooper pulled the truck over for a traffic stop and learned that the semi truck’s Motor Carrier Permit was suspended.
CHP placed the truck out-of-service and had it impounded.
“Commercial vehicle regulations exist to help keep everyone safe on our roadways. Whether you’re behind the wheel of a passenger vehicle or a big rig, follow the rules of the road and ensure all required licenses, permits, and documentation are current before you travel,” CSP said.
The California Vehicle Code places a 55 m.p.h. speed limit on commercial vehicles, three axle vehicles, and vehicles towing a trailer. These vehicles are also restricted to the right lane “except when overtaking and passing another vehicle proceeding in the same direction or when preparing for a left turn at an intersection or into a private road or driveway.”
