Certain high-profile vehicles banned from Indiana Toll Road for winter weather

Published:

Truckers driving certain high-profile vehicles should plan ahead for winter weather restrictions on the Indiana Toll Road this week.

The winter weather ban will be in effect from January 14 at 12:00 p.m. (ET) through January 15 at 12:00 p.m. (ET).

The ban affects the Indiana Toll Road in LaPorte County including mile marker 31 (Valparaiso Plaza) – St. Joseph County mile marker 92 (Elkhart Plaza).

Vehicle types restricted by the travel ban include:

  • Triple tractor trailers
  • Long doubles (high-profile only)
  • High-profile oversized permit loads

The Indiana Toll Road issued the travel restrictions due to a Winter Storm Warning in effect from 7 a.m. (ET) on Wednesday through 1 p.m. (ET) on Thursday for Berrien, La Porte, and St. Joseph counties. A Winter Weather Advisory is also in place for Cass, Starke, and Marshall counties during that timeframe.

Snow accumulation in the 3-8″ range is expected in some areas.

The greatest travel impacts are expected on Wednesday night into Thursday morning.
