CHP inspectors catch dangerous exhaust leak below semi truck’s sleeper berth

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) took a truck out-of-service after locating a dangerous exhaust leak during a routine commercial vehicle inspection in Fairfield, California.

The violation was found during an inspection at CHP’s Cordelia Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Facility in Fairfield.

Troopers reported finding “a leaking exhaust system located directly beneath the driver/sleeper compartment of this truck-tractor,” according to a June 3 statement.

CHP placed the truck out-of-service for the exhaust leak and “other violations which were located.”

Troopers used the incident as a reminder about the safety hazards posed by exhaust leaks.

“Exhaust leaks in this location can allow fumes to enter the vehicle, creating a hazardous environment for the occupant(s),” CHP said.
