CHP knocked trucker out-of-service for double digit violation of California’s 55 MPH truck speed limit

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) issued a reminder to the trucking community about the state’s speed limit for commercial vehicles after a trooper encountered a “high speed” tractor trailer in the Williams area.

On May 14, 2026, a trooper with the CHP – Williams Division stopped a semi truck for exceeding 70 m.p.h., according to an image shared by state police.

CHP said that the speeding truck driver was cited and placed out-of-service.

Troopers used the incident as “a reminder to commercial vehicles, three axle vehicles and vehicles towing a trailer that the speed limit is 55 MPH.”

CHP asked drivers to “slow down and drive safe.”
