CHP puts the brakes on unlicensed pickup truck driver hauling ‘unsafe load’

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) took enforcement action against a pickup truck driver hauling an unsafe load in the Hayward area.

On May 23, 2026, CHP’s Hayward Division took to social media to call out a pickup truck driver for multiple violations.

Troopers say that the pickup was spotted hauling an unsafe load with hazard lights activated, traveling at speeds of 15 m.p.h. in a 40 m.p.h zone in Hayward, California.

CHP initiated a traffic stop.

During the traffic stop, troopers learned that the pickup driver was unlicensed.

As a result of the traffic stop, a citation was issued, the pickup was impounded, and the “unsafe load [was] removed from the roadway.”

“Reminder: If your load requires crossed fingers, hazard lights, and pure optimism to make it down the road, it probably shouldn’t be there in the first place,” troopers advised.
