CHP says truck driver who plowed into field was 6 times over the legal limit for CMV operators

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) is reminding truckers that “no load, deadline, or excuse is worth driving impaired” after a commercial vehicle driver went off road into a field.

According to an April 12, 2026 social media post from CHP’s Tracy Division, a semi truck was located by police after going off the roadway into a field.

Troopers said that the driver was “operating at nearly THREE TIMES the legal limit for a passenger vehicle—and well beyond the stricter limit for commercial drivers.”

The truck driver was found to be six times over the Blood Alcohol Content (BAC) limit for commercial vehicle drivers of 0.04, according to CHP.

The driver was arrested for DUI.

“A fully loaded big rig isn’t just a vehicle—it’s thousands of pounds with the potential for devastating consequences in the wrong hands … Drive sober. Stay alert. Arrive alive,” CHP said.
