CHP says trucker’s load violation could have caused a major crash

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) recently stopped a semi truck in the Los Banos area for failing to place warning flags on an extended load.

On March 18, CHP’s Los Banos Division took to social media to remind truckers to use warning flags after recent encounter with a dangerous metal beam load.

“Appears ok, but closer look, this is very dangerous. No flags or warning lights. This metal beam extending 14 ft. could have caused serious injury,” CHP said.

CHP reminded truckers that 49 CFR 393.87 requires that “any commercial motor vehicle transporting a load which extends beyond the sides by more than 102 mm (4 inches) or more than 1,219 mm (4 feet) beyond the rear must have the extremities of the load marked with red or orange fluorescent warning flags.”

“Commercial CHP Officer stopped this tractor for load violation, which prevented a major crash,” troopers said.
