CHP shares video of big rig striking overpass, leading to arrest for drugged driving

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) shared video of a semi truck driver operating recklessly on SR-99 prior to the driver’s arrest.

The video was captured on April 14, 2026, on northbound SR-99 near 4th Street in Madera, California.

Troopers responded after a concerned motorist reported a big rig operating recklessly on the highway.

“At one point, the big rig collided with an overpass—then continued driving,” CHP said.

CHP located the truck and performed a traffic stop.

The driver of the truck was placed under arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs.

“Thanks to the extra eyes on the road (motorists) this situation was brought to a stop before it could turn into something far worse. It takes all of us to keep our roadways safe. If you see something, say something. Report impaired drivers, call 911,” CHP said.
