CMV enforcement at Pennsylvania rest area results in $1.2 million in marijuana products seized from semi truck

Pennsylvania State Police (PSP) seized a shipment of marijuana products discovered during a commercial vehicle enforcement detail at an I-80 rest stop.

On March 16, 2026, PSP’s Motor Carrier Safety Assistance Program (MCSAP) troopers conducted a detail at the I-80 eastbound rest area located in Mifflin Township, Pennsylvania.

According to a PSP news release, at approximately 12:04 p.m., PSP troopers performed a DOT inspection on a white 2024 Freightliner semi truck hauling a white 2017 Hyundai trailer.

“During the inspection, a strong odor of marijuana was detected emanating from the semi-trailer,” PSP said.

The driver gave police consent to search the trailer, and “while inspecting the trailer for load securement, approximately five pallets containing a large quantity of marijuana pre-rolls were discovered. All items were seized and transported to PSP Hazelton.”

A search warrant was executed on the truck and trailer on March 19.

“Discovered in the semi-trailer were five pallets containing multiple containers of premium infused pre-roll cannabis joints, premium cannabis infused edibles, cannabis disposable vape pens and cannabis vape pod systems,” troopers said.

The estimated value of the marijuana product in the trailer is $1,226,180.

Recreational marijuana is not legal in Pennsylvania, though it is legal in nearby states like Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, and Ohio.

The investigation is ongoing.
