CMV inspection in Tennessee uncovers overweight load, trailer frame ‘cracked completely in half’

Tennessee troopers are asking truck drivers to make sure their loads are within legal weight limits after a recent encounter with an overweight truck with a serious trailer issue.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) took to social media on July 29 after an alarming find during a commercial vehicle inspection.

Troopers said that the inspection “revealed more than just an overweight load, it uncovered a trailer frame that had cracked completely in half.”

THP used the incident as a teaching moment to remind truck drivers to comply with weight limits and to check equipment for safety issues.

“This inspection serves as an important reminder that overweight violations aren’t just about compliance, they’re about preventing crashes before they happen,” THP said.

Troopers asked truckers to verify your load is within legal weight limits, inspect your equipment for signs of damage or excessive wear, and to repair structural issues immediately — never ignore cracks or frame damage.

“By identifying unsafe equipment before it fails on the highway, we’re helping keep Tennessee’s roads safer for everyone,” said state police.
