A commercial vehicle driver was arrested at a New York Port of Entry after border agents discovered that he was illegally in possession of firearms as a convicted felon.
On March 24, 2026, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers stationed at the Buffalo Port of Entry encountered a fifty-five year old Missouri-based commercial vehicle driver.
Officials say that the driver “inadvertently followed GPS into Canada and was returned to the U.S. by Canadian Border Services Agency (CBSA).”
The driver declared two firearms to CBSA, and the Charter Arms .38 Special and the FIE .22-caliber pistol were returned with the driver at the Peace Bridge.
As CBP officers checked the driver’s credentials, they discovered that he was a convicted felon and sex offender.
The commercial vehicle driver was arrested for illegally possessing firearms as a felon, a felony charge. He was handed over to the Buffalo Police Department, along with the two firearms.
“The safety and security of our ports and communities is a top priority,” said Acting Port Director Sharon Swiatek. “Our CBP officers continue to demonstrate their unwavering commitment to enforcing the law and preventing prior felons from possessing dangerous weapons.”
