Crashes involving ‘several 18-wheelers’ shut down I-10 Atchafalaya Basin Bridge

Louisiana State Police (LSP) issued a travel advisory on Wednesday afternoon after multi-vehicle crashes on the Atchafalaya Basin Bridge.

LSP said that troopers are responding to “multiple crashes involving several 18-wheelers on the Atchafalaya Basin Bridge, near Whiskey Bay.”

Troopers say that the crashes have caused significant blockages affecting both the eastbound and westbound lanes of I-10 near mile marker 128.

“Motorists are strongly encouraged to avoid the area and seek alternate routes. Troopers and first responders remain on scene working to safely clear the roadway,” LSP said.

It isn’t yet clear how many vehicles were involved in the crashes or whether anyone was hurt.
