The California Highway Patrol (CHP) took a commercial vehicle off the road after locating “several serious mechanical and safety violations” during a traffic stop.
At 8:35 a.m. on July 7, 2026, a CHP Commercial Enforcement Officer was monitoring traffic on SR-91 eastbound for commercial vehicles bypassing the Peralta Scales in Anaheim.
After observing a commercial vehicle “fail to enter the scales,” the officer performed a traffic stop.
The traffic stop included a commercial vehicle inspection, which uncovered “several serious mechanical and safety violations, including cracked welds at the turntable flange and a completely broken main suspension leaf spring.”
Due to the “critical defects” discovered during the inspection, the vehicle was ordered out-of-service until repairs could be completed.
CHP used the incident to remind truckers to keep up with equipment maintenance.
“Commercial vehicle inspections play a vital role in keeping California’s highways safe. Mechanical failures on large trucks can have devastating consequences for everyone sharing the road,” state police said.
