The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) will hold a special commercial vehicle initiative next week in response to an increased risk of human trafficking associated with the FIFA World Cup soccer tournament.
From June 1 — 5, 2026, the CVSA will spearhead a special Human Trafficking Awareness Initiative (HTAI) “to address the increased risks of human trafficking associated with large-scale international events” such as the World Cup.
The CVSA member countries, Canada, Mexico and the U.S, are collectively hosting the World Cup from June 11, 2026 – July 19, 2026.
The purpose of the HTAI is to educate truck drivers, motor carriers, law enforcement officers, and the public about the signs of human trafficking and what to do if you suspect someone is being trafficked.
“Human trafficking is a significant concern surrounding major events – such as the upcoming football/soccer competition – due to the massive influx of visitors, increased demand for hospitality, and strained local resources and personnel. Such a large-scale special event may increase the demand for commercial sex, which could increase sex trafficking, and vulnerable workers in certain industries may suffer from labor trafficking during the preparation and production of the event,” the CVSA said.
The June HTAI is being conducted in addition to the annual CVSA HTAI that was held in the U.S. January 12 — 16, 2026.
