CVSA’s July blitz to target ‘reckless, careless, and dangerous’ motorists and commercial vehicle drivers

The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance’s (CVSA) Operation Safe Driver Week enforcement detail will focus reckless passenger and commercial vehicle drivers.

Operation Safe Driver Week 2026 will be held July 12 — 18 throughout North America.

The focus area for Operation Safe Driver Week 2026 will be on reckless, careless or dangerous driving behaviors committed by both commercial vehicle drivers and passenger vehicle drivers, the CVSA announced on April 30.

During Operation Safe Driver Week, federal, state, and local law enforcement will increase patrols, looking out for drivers who are speeding, distracted driving, fatigued/drowsy driving, following too closely, impaired driving, failure to wear a seatbelt, unsafe lane changes, or disregarding traffic signals.

Drivers who commit violations will be targeted by law enforcement and cited.

The goal of Operation Safe Driver Week is to increase roadway safety by improving driver behavior through education, traffic enforcement, and interactions with law enforcement.

During Operation Safe Driver Week 2025, 2,504 tickets/citations and 3,575 warnings to commercial motor vehicle and passenger vehicle drivers for unsafe driving infractions. Of these, 3,230 warnings and 1,839 citations were issued to commercial motor vehicle drivers, and 345 warnings and 665 citations were issued to passenger vehicle drivers.

Also on the CVSA’s docket is the annual International Roadcheck inspection campaign. Roadcheck is scheduled for May 12 — 14, 2026, with a focus on cargo securement and Electronic Logging Device tampering.
