Department of Transportation will turn to AI for next steps in identifying trucking fraud

U.S. Department of Transportation Deputy Secretary Steven Bradbury says that the department will turn to AI as it works to better identify and address trucking fraud throughout the country.

Bradbury made these comments at the annual meeting of the Transportation Research Board (TRB) in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday, January 15th.

“We also plan to use AI. We’re planning to use AI to accelerate our rulemaking process,” he said in his speech.

“We wanna use advanced data analytics to improve the accuracy and effectiveness of our enforcement efforts. One example of that is to identify fraud in the trucking industry and identify instances where trucking companies are using illegal foreign drivers. And that is happening very extensively.”

“It’s eating the lunch of American truckers, because it’s driving down to unreasonable levels the compensation for truck drivers. That something we’re going to take on,” he added.

Further details on how the AI driven data will lead to further crackdown on illegal truck drivers were not discussed.

A video of the meeting can be seen below. Bradbury begins speaking at about 40 minutes and 20 seconds.
