Truck makers are recalling certain newer-model Mack and Volvo commercial trucks for a defect that could cause a wheel detachment.
According to National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) documents, a “Do Not Drive” recall was issued by Mack Trucks, Inc. and Volvo Trucks North America.
“Owners are advised not to drive their vehicles until the repair has been performed,” the recall documents state.
The recall affects 155 Volvo trucks and 644 Mack trucks.
The recall documents state that “the wheel lug nuts may loosen and allow the wheel to detach.”
See below for trucks affected by the recall.
Owner notification letters for both recalls were scheduled to be mailed on June 5.
To remedy the issue, dealers will inspect the wheel and hub mating surfaces, remove any masking material, and replace any worn components if necessary, free of charge.
Truck owners with questions about the recall may contact Volvo customer service at 1-800-528-6586 with recall number RVXX2606 or Mack customer service at 1-800-866-1177 with recall number SC0495
