Driver 8 times over the legal limit for CDL holder with open container in cupholder, Iowa troopers say

A truck driver was arrested for serious alcohol violations discovered during a traffic stop, the Iowa State Patrol (ISP) Commercial Motor Vehicle Unit said on Wednesday.

This week, an ISP trooper responded to a traffic complaint involving a commercial vehicle on I-35.

While interacting with the driver, the trooper noticed an open alcohol container in the cup holder as well as several other unopened alcohol containers in the cab, ISP said.

Images shared by state police show multiple cans of Natural Ice beer, a mostly-empty container of Fireball whisky, and a container of “Beatbox” party punch.

“Through the investigation, evidence revealed the driver was operating with a blood alcohol content over 8 times the legal limit in a CDL required vehicle,” ISP said.

The BAC displayed by ISP reads 0.321%. The legal limit for a CDL holder is 0.04%.

Troopers said that the driver was taken off the road and booked into jail.
