A truck driver and an abducted teenager were found exiting the shower at a Love’s in Oklahoma on Tuesday night.
The teenager was first found to be missing from her home in Zachary, Louisiana at about 7 a.m. on Tuesday, March 17th. She was found with 38-year-old truck driver Michael Jay at a Love’s in Ardmore, Oklahoma that same evening.
According to WAFB9, prior to her disappearance, the 17-year-old girl was communicating with Jay online, believing that he was a fellow teenager. The girl was looking for a ride to Mississippi, and Jay offered her one, so she accepted.
“She was on social media talking to someone she thought was her age. Turns out it was a guy that’s actually 38-years-old,” said Zachary Police Chief Darryl Lawrence to Unfiltered News. Lawrence also added that Jay came to pick her up, was not who she expected, and then took her in a completely different, unwanted direction that was not her intended destination of Mississippi.
Officers were able to locate the pair using the location on the teenager’s phone.
“Now, when officers arrived, they did locate them in coming out of one of these shower rooms,” Sgt. Matthew Dunn with the Ardmore Police Department said. “They were clothed. It is under investigation what occurred in the shower room and whether anything at all occurred in the shower room.”
Jay has since waived extradition back to Louisiana and will be booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison. Jay is facing charges of felony kidnapping, child endangerment, and contributing to the delinquency of a minor for the incident involving an abducted teenager.
“We just have to tell people to, they just have to make sure that they monitor their kids, their social media posts and whatever they are doing on social media,” Lawrence said.
