Driver transporting ‘heavy load’ ordered out-of-service in Arizona for no CDL, medical card, or USDOT number

Arizona Department of Public Safety (AZDPS) Highway Patrol troopers placed a driver and a vehicle out-of-service for numerous violations.

June 23, 2026, AZDPS troopers with the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit stopped a vehicle hauling a piece of construction equipment on AZ-202 near Warner Road in Mesa, Arizona.

An inspection was conducted, and troopers learned that the driver of the pickup “did not have a CDL, medical card, or USDOT number.”

Troopers said that the pickup was transporting “this heavy load” from Phoenix to a job at Tempe Marketplace, “where a licensed CDL driver was said to be waiting.”

In addition to the driver violations, AZDPS said that the trailer breakaway device was also inoperative.

Both the driver and the vehicle were ordered out-of-service until a CDL driver could take over and repairs could be made.

“No CDL = No commercial driving,” officials said.
