Dump truck driver cited after losing rear tandem axle wheels on Illinois roadway, police say

Police in Elmhurst, Illinois, issued a citation after responding to an “unsafe dump truck” this week.

The incident took place on the afternoon of Thursday, February 26, 2026, on southbound Rt. 83, south of North Ave. in Elmhurst.

The Elmhurst Police Department (EPD) said that “an unsafe dump truck that lost its rear tandem axle wheels while driving.”

No injuries were reported.

EPD said that the dump truck driver was cited for Unsafe Equipment, and the dump truck towed.

“All commercial motor vehicle operators are responsible for ensuring their trucks are in proper driving condition. Unsafe commercial motor vehicles can be deadly,” police said.
