The Wyoming Highway Patrol (WHP) pointed to brake failure as a cause of a multiple fatality crash in Teton Pass on Tuesday.
Shortly before noon on July 7, 2026, WHP troopers responded to a reported crash on WY22 near mile marker 6.8 in Teton Pass.
Troopers say that a dump truck loaded with asphalt lost control while coming down the pass and struck a motorcycle, two pickup trucks, and a Subaru.
The dump truck then “glanced off” another vehicle and then overturned, coming to a stop on its side.
Two people were pronounced dead at the scene.
Four other people were transported to hospitals for treatment of minor to moderate injuries.
“Preliminary investigation by WHP Troopers points to brake failure on the dump truck as a contributing factor in this collision,” said WHP. “The Wyoming Highway Patrol would like to extend our deepest sympathy to the families of the those who died in this collision.”
