Eighty inspectors taking part in Arizona commercial vehicle blitz underway on I-10 and I-19 

The annual “Operation Southern Shield” commercial vehicle inspection and enforcement effort is underway in Arizona.

Operation Southern Shield is taking place now through Friday, February 27, 2026, on I-10 from Phoenix to the New Mexico state line and on I-19 from Tucson to the international border.

As part of Operation Southern Shield, multiple agencies will patrol I-10 and I-19 to target hazardous moving violations, distracted driving, and seat belt violations while conducting commercial vehicle inspections to ensure commercial drivers and vehicles comply with commercial vehicle regulations and state laws, according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety.

This year, more than 80 commercial vehicle enforcement inspectors from the Arizona Commercial Vehicle Safety Partnership (ACVSP), the Pima County Sheriff’s Office, the Marana Police Department, the Buckeye Police Department, the Goodyear Police Department, and the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration.

During last year’s Operation Southern Shield campaign, officers 910 commercial vehicle inspections and recorded 2,614 driver-vehicle examination report violations. A total of 146 vehicles and 92 drivers were placed out-of-service for critical violations.
