The family of a motorist who was killed after crashing into two tractor trailers illegally parked on the side of a Pennsylvania highway is suing the Canadian drivers and trucking companies for the accident.
Kathy Brown of Edgewater, Florida filed the suit in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania court on Wednesday, May 6th on behalf of her 37-year-old son, Travis Brown, who was killed on October 15th, 2025.
According to TribLive, Brown was driving a Ford Explorer north on Interstate 79 at around 3:09 a.m. when he struck a tractor trailer parked illegally on the shoulder of the interstate. Bown’s vehicle then spun and struck the rear of the second tractor trailer, which was also illegally parked. Brown died at the scene, and a passenger in his vehicle was seriously hurt.
Investigation revealed that the first tractor trailer was being operated by a pair of team drivers that were in the process of swapping places. Canadian drivers Jagdish Dhillon and Joginder Gill were operating the rig for Fleetex Transport and had been stopped on the shoulder since about 2:50 a.m.
The second semi truck had been stopped on the shoulder with truck driver Gurdeep Singh in the sleeper since 11:30 p.m. He was driving for Gigg Express and Sheru Dillon Transport.
The suit alleges that neither tractor trailer had any warning devices placed near the trucks to warn drivers, and were stopped only inches off of the main roadway. The suit includes claims for wrongful death, negligence, and recklessness. It also accuses Sheru Dillon Transport and Gigg Express of negligent hiring, retention, and supervision.
