Five states team up for ‘Operation Southern Slow Down’ traffic enforcement

Drivers should expect to see an increased police presence in five southeastern states next week as a major speed enforcement operation kicks off.

“Operation Southern Slow Down” will take place July 13 through July 19, 2026, in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, and Tennessee.

The purpose of the campaign is to reduce speed-related crashes and fatalities on interstates and state highways.

State and local law enforcement agencies will increase patrols to target drivers who are speeding, driving aggressively, or violating other traffic laws. Drivers can expect to be cited for speeding or other traffic offenses.

The Operation Southern Slow Down campaign will overlap with the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance’s (CVSA) Operation Safe Driver Week detail which takes place throughout North America July 12 — 18, 2026.

Operation Southern Slow Down was launched in 2017.
