Flying J worker killed in ‘tragic accident’ in Wyoming truck stop parking lot

The Rock Springs Police Department (RSPD) responded to a fatal accident at a Flying J truck stop over the weekend.

The incident occurred around 5 a.m. on April 19, 2026, at the Flying J Travel Center located in Rock Springs, Wyoming.

Police say that a Flying J employee was in the truck stop parking lot “working to direct commercial vehicle traffic.”

“Initial findings suggest that as one semi truck began to move, the employee was positioned between that vehicle and a second stationary vehicle. The employee was subsequently pinned between the two units,” RSPD said.

Emergency medical units responded to the scene, but the employee succumbed to injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The truck driver involved, who is an Idaho resident, stayed at the scene and cooperated with police. Police said that the driver was released after giving a statement and that the incident was a “tragic accident.”

“We extend our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased and the staff at Flying J. We also want to commend the rapid response and professional life-saving efforts coordinated by Rock Springs Fire and Castle Rock Ambulance during this difficult call,” RSPD said.

The Pilot Company provided the following statement on the incident:

“It is with heavy hearts that Pilot can confirm the passing of one of our team members after a tragic parking lot accident at our Flying J location in Rock Springs, Wyoming. Our thoughts and prayers are with our team member’s loved ones, our team at this location and across all of Pilot.
