FMCSA revokes 5 ELDs, giving truckers a 60-day deadline to replace with compliant devices

Truckers will have sixty days to act after the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) removed five electronic logging devices (ELDs) from the agency’s list of approved devices.

On August 6, 2026, FMCSA revoked the following ELDs for failure to meet minimum standards:

  Device Name: Sparkle ELD
  Model Number: PT40SIM
  ELD Identifier: SPARK6

“FMCSA is committed to ensuring that electronic logging devices meet the highest standards for accuracy, reliability, and compliance. When devices fail to satisfy the agency’s requirements, we will take appropriate action to protect the integrity of hours-of-service records and support our mission of improving safety on our nation’s roadways,” said FMCSA Administrator Derek D. Barrs.

Carriers should discontinue using the revoked ELDs and revert to paper logs or logging software to record required hours-of-service data.

The deadline to replace a revoked ELD with an approved device is October 6, 2026. After that date, drivers found to be using one of the revoked devices will be cited for “No record of duty status” and placed out-of-service.

FMCSA has removed 95 ELDs from the agency’s list of approved devices since January 2025.

In December 2025, FMCSA announced plans to reform the ELD vetting process in an effort to save truckers the time, money, and hassle of replacing revoked devices.
