FMCSA’s May 14 deadline looms as legacy registration systems will be retired and replaced by Motus

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) is asking the trucking community to prepare for the sunset of legacy systems and the transition to the new online registration system called Motus.

FMCSA has issued multiple reminders ahead of the May 14, 2026, deadline for carriers and brokers to take action before the current online registration systems go dark.

According to the agency, any entity with a USDOT Number or USDOT Number and Operating Authority (MC, MX,FF Docket Number) must take the following actions by May 14.

Taking these steps will ensure that you have an active account, which is required to access Motus, the new USDOT Registration System.

Motus will replace both the Unified Registration System (URS) as well as the FMCSA Portal, offering increased fraud protection and a more user-friendly experience, FMCSA says.
