Georgia DOT advances plan to build truck-only lanes along 41 miles of I-75

The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) is currently accepting public comment on a project to build truck-only lanes along the I-75 corridor.

From now through May 28, 2026, GDOT is accepting public comments on the I-75 Commercial Vehicle Lanes (CVL) project proposal as the agency looks to move forward with construction in late 2026, according to local reports.

As part of the project, GDOT would build two commercial vehicle-only lanes along northbound I-75 from the I-75/I-475 Interchange in Monroe County ending near the State Route (SR) 20 Interchange in Henry County.

The total length of the I-75 commercial vehicle lanes would be approximately 41 miles across Henry, Spalding, Butts, Lamar, and Monroe counties.

GDOT says that the truck-only lanes would be separated from the rest of traffic by a barrier.

There would be no toll for truckers using the I-75 lanes, according to GDOT.

Officials say that the project would “reduce delay for commercial vehicles and in general purpose lanes during peak periods.”

“The I-75 CVL modernizes infrastructure and operations to grow the economy, increase competitiveness, and improve quality of life,” GDOT said.

The project remains in a developmental phase pending public comment and federal approval.
