Georgia DPS catches driver with disqualified CDL hauling leaking asphalt tanker

A commercial vehicle and driver were recently removed from Georgia roadways for licensing and hazardous materials violations.

On September 2, 2026, the Georgia Department of Public Safety (DPS) highlighted a recent violation discovered on a commercial truck as a safety reminder to other drivers.

A commercial vehicle hauling a cargo tank loaded with asphalt was referred for an inspection.

“…After noticing an abnormally strong smell of asphalt, Commercial Vehicle Enforcement (CVE) officers noticed hazardous material on the exterior of the tank, which is a violation,” Georgia DPS said.

The inspection revealed that the tanker was leaking asphalt from multiple places.

Additionally, the CVE officers learned that the truck driver was operating with a disqualified commercial driver’s license (CDL).

“Following the inspection, both the CMV and the driver were placed out-of-service,” Georgia DPS said.
