Hazmat packages ‘found loose and rolling’ during semi truck inspection in Tennessee

The Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) found cargo securement violations during a recent commercial vehicle inspection on a truck hauling hazardous materials.

A trooper conducted a hazmat inspection on a semi truck in Cumberland County, Tennessee, according to an April 29 statement from THP.

During the inspection, the trooper found serious load securement violations of the hazmat being transported in the trailer.

Troopers said that the hazmat cargo had not been properly secured, leading to a load shift.

“Several Hazardous Materials packages were found loose and rolling around on the trailer deck, creating a safety risk for the driver and everyone sharing the roadway,” THP said.

Tennessee troopers used the incident as a reminder of the importance of load securement.

“Proper load securement is critical, especially when transporting hazardous materials. Taking shortcuts can lead to dangerous consequences. Always ensure hazmat loads are properly secured, compliant, and safe before hitting the road. Safety is not optional. Compliance saves lives,” THP said.
