High winds have prompted Colorado transportation officials to restrict high profile vehicles from traveling on I-70.
Shortly after 1 p.m. on January 16, the Colorado State Patrol (CSP) announced a high wind travel restriction on I-70 in both directions between Highway 40 (Deer Trail) and the Kansas State Line (10 miles east of Burlington), from mile markers 328 — 450.
“Due to high winds and overturned semis, high-profile vehicles are not permitted. Drivers of high-profile vehicles should delay travel and check COtrip.org for delays,” CSP said.
Additionally, the Colorado Department of Transportation announced that the following roadways are closed to all traffic due to wind:
- I-25 northbound at Owl Canyon Rd (mile marker 281)
- I-70 westbound from Burlington (mile marker 389) to Limon (mile marker 359)
- I-70 eastbound from Airpark Rd (mile marker 292) to Burlington (mile marker 389)
- US 24 both directions Seibert (mile marker 423) to Burlington (mile marker 454)
Wind gusts of up to 60 m.p.h. are expected on Friday throughout much of Colorado, including the Ft. Collins Area and North Eastern Colorado.
