Homeless man confused by semi truck’s braking system arrested during attempted theft

A homeless man unfamiliar with a commercial vehicle’s braking system was arrested while attempting to steal a semi truck in Alabama on Sunday. 

The attempted theft occurred on August 2nd in Mobile, Alabama at Hudd Transportation on Carol Plantation Road just after 3:15 p.m. 

According to WKRG, a homeless man entered the property and broke into the business’s office two semi trucks on the property before attempting to steal one of the rigs. When he tried to drive the truck away, he could not disengage the braking system, and was unable to leave the property with the truck. 

Police determined that the homeless man, 49-year-old David Dunn, had stolen items from the office and at least one semi truck before attempting to steal the Freightliner rig. 

Dunn was arrested and is charged with third-degree burglary, unlawful breaking and entering, and first-degree attempted theft of property. He was booked into Metro Jail.
