Homicide charge for semi driver who merged slowly from shoulder onto I-80, causing crash that killed another trucker

A truck driver was arrested by the Nebraska State Patrol (NSP) following a fatal two-truck crash in Lincoln County earlier this month.

On August 24, 2026, NSP announced that New York-based truck driver Aleks Latsabidze, 46, was arrested and booked into the Lincoln County Jail on a charged of motor vehicle homicide.

The charge was issued in connection with a crash that took place on August 15, 2026, on I-80 near mile marker 198.

Troopers said that Latsabidze was operating a semi truck with a flatbed trail that had been parked on the shoulder of I-80.

“It then merged onto I-80 and was traveling below the minimum speed limit when it was struck from behind by the other semi,” NSP said.

The driver of the second semi truck, Jose Espinosa Salazar, 40, of Florida, died at the scene.

The investigation is ongoing.
