Horrendous smell prompts hazmat response to semi truck parked on I-35 feeder road

Hazmat teams responded to a semi truck stopped on an Interstate 35 feeder road after reports of an awful smell coming from the trailer. 

The semi truck and smell was reported at around 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, August 13th on the I-35 access road near the Cassin Road exit in San Antonio, Texas. Police and hazmat crews responded to the scene.

According to News4SanAntonio, people in the area described the smell as overwhelming and unpleasant. By 12:30 p.m. police had left the scene, but a private hazmat company was left to handle the semi truck and its cargo. 

The semi truck was reportedly hauling beef when the reefer trailer experienced refrigeration issues. It is unclear when the truck was first left on the side of the road, but triple digit temperatures in the region this week contributed to the rotten meat smell. 

It is unclear whether the driver has been located, or what exactly led up to the trailer to be left stinking up the side of the road. No further information has been released.
